Our Learning Stages

At St. Louis Kannada School, each child progresses through carefully designed stages by Taynudi that nurture language skills, cultural understanding, and confidence. Our levels draw inspiration from symbolic elements of Karnataka — each representing a phase of growth, strength, and mastery in Kannada learning.

KUSUMA (ಕುಸುಮ) - Level I

Where learning begins.

Kusuma represents the early stage of a child’s Kannada journey — just like a flower bud gently beginning to bloom. At this level, children are introduced to the foundations of the language through fun, simple, and engaging activities.

Focus Areas:

• Kannada vowels and consonants

• Simple words and object recognition

• Listening and speaking through rhymes, stories, and songs

• Building comfort and curiosity toward the language

Kusuma is all about planting the seeds of learning with joy.

KASTHURI (ಕಸ್ತೂರಿ) - Level II

Where learning starts to spread.

Kasthuri symbolizes the beautiful fragrance that begins to flow from a flower — much like how children at this stage start expanding their Kannada skills. Learners strengthen their foundation and begin forming meaningful connections between letters, words, and simple sentences.

Focus Areas:

• Complete Kannada alphabet

• Conjuncts and compound letters

• Basic reading and writing practice

• Introduction to basic grammar (singular, plural, gender, etc.)

• Introduction to conversational Kannada

• Songs, stories, and cultural expressions

Kasthuri children grow in confidence as their understanding begins to blossom and spread.

KESARI (ಕೇಸರಿ) - Level III

Where skills grow strong and purposeful.

Kesari represents the warrior — determined, disciplined, and ready to champion Kannada with pride. Students at this level are prepared to take on more structured reading, writing, and comprehension tasks with greater independence.

Focus Areas:

• Fluent reading of simple passages

• Writing structured sentences and short paragraphs

• Grammar fundamentals

• Understanding proverbs, riddles, and basic literature

• Cultural learning through stories of bravery, history, and folklore

Kesari students become strong advocates of the language, equipped with growing proficiency.

KEERTHI (ಕೀರ್ತಿ) - Level IV

Where knowledge shines.

Keerthi represents pride — the stage where students have gained solid command over Kannada and can use it with clarity and confidence.
This level focuses on refining skills and deepening appreciation for the cultural richness of Karnataka.

Focus Areas:

• Reading longer stories and narratives

• Structured writing, descriptions, and creative expression

• Intermediate grammar and comprehension

• Exposure to poems, songs, and classical literature

• Participation in cultural performances and recitation

Keerthi students become proud torchbearers of the language and culture.

RATHNA (ರತ್ನ) - Level V

Where mastery and excellence come together.

Rathna represents the crown jewel — the highest stage that symbolizes all-round skill, maturity, and mastery in Kannada language and culture. Students at this level demonstrate strong literacy, cultural understanding, and the ability to express themselves confidently.

Focus Areas:

• Fluent reading and comprehension of grade-level texts

• Advanced writing, essays, and creative compositions

• In-depth grammar and vocabulary

• Exposure to classical works, poets, and cultural heritage

• Leadership in performances, debates, and presentations

Rathna students emerge as well-rounded Kannada learners who can carry the language with pride wherever they go.
